I hurry to my next class, which is on Mage’s campus. If I want to graduate on time, I must take a course on their campus. Magical elements 101. It’s quite an interesting class. We are at the beginning stages of how to use magic. This week we are supposed to learn to ride brooms. Everyone, even the mages. I’m really looking forward to today’s class.

Scrambling through the back door of class, I wipe the sweat from my brow. The sound of the bell pierces my ears. Barely made it in time. Professor Harvey is writing some jibberish on the board. He writes most of the time, since most of the class can barely make out what he says.

I flip my book out awaiting our assignment. My gaze narrows in on the writing on the board. My heart stalls, small knots weaving in the out of my stomach.

We need a partner. No student will partner with me. I’m the black sheep. Anyway, why do we need to partner with someone just to learn to ride a broom?

“Everyone get a partner,” Mr. Harvey says. Everyone scatters and begins to chit-chat with their friends. All the students find someone except me and another witch, April.

“Ok, Ronielle and April, pair up.” He slips his jacket on and grabs a book from his desk. “We are going outside today for our lesson on broom riding.”

April’s eyes flicker and she frowns. “No, I’m mot partnering with her,” she grunts.

The heifer has a problem. I don’t want to partner with her either. I can work alone; I’m an introvert, anyway.

The door knob twists, silencing the room. I’m grateful another brawl is brewing. The twins enter the room and I nearly faint. They always show up right on time. How did they know I’m on the edge of trouble?

They walk over to Mr. Harvey’s desk. I can’t take my eyes off them. It’s a miracle they got this class.

James shows Mr. Harvey his schedule. They both take a seat up front. Josh winks at me before he sits. Passion sizzles in my chest.

“Okay class, we have two guys joining the class. James and Josh McFarland.” He points at the twins. He coughs, covering his mouth. “Now, where were we? Oh yes, find a partner for the assignment today.”

April gives me the stank face. She gets up and struts toward James. “He can be my partner,” she says.

“Fine. Then the other twin…what’s your name?”

Josh stalls for a minute. I guess he hasn’t learned Mr. Harvey’s accent. “Josh.”

“Yes. Josh, you will partner with Ronielle here.”

“No problem,” he says before smiling at me.

“Okay everyone, grab a broom from the closet.”

I slip on my coat then zip up. I stroll over to Josh’s desk. His gaze trails my physique from head to toe. He holds the broom in his hand

“Let’s go, shall we?” he says then we walk to the door. “You know how to ride, don’t you?” he whispers.

I bat my eyelashes. “Of course.”
